Project Overview
GFM is responsible for the provisions and running of Hard FM to a 19,000m², three-floor hospital in Hull. Our services include PPMs, building fabric maintenance, portable appliance testing, landscaping, energy & environmental consultancy, Help Desk services, painting and decorating, and more. Our directly employed team also engages with specialist subcontractors to service lifts, refrigeration equipment, and medical gases.
Overcoming Challenges
The maintenance of critical systems in a live working hospital presents numerous challenges. Most significantly, shutting down systems for maintenance could significantly hinder the Trust’s ability to manufacture Chemotherapy and provide crucial care. To minimise the risk, we work closely with the Trust to organise shutdowns for the least impactful times, allowing us to maintain systems with minimal disruption.
Lessons Learnt
- By focussing on Lifecycle delivery, we are able to keep breakdowns and failures to a minimum.
- By appointing a Project Manager who focuses on H&S within delivery, we have logged zero H&S incidents or accidents to date in this project.
- Time and money can be saved by finding innovative solutions, e.g. self delivery of small passive fire protection works.
